All Saints Catholic Church welcomes National Conference on Environment and
Art for Catholic Worship.

On August 3, 2007, All Saints Catholic Church welcomes architects from
across the nation.

Milwaukee, WI,  Friday August 3, 2007:  "An Evening of HeART and Soul"
All Saints Catholic Parish on the near north side of Milwaukee is extending
an invitation to participants at Form Reform to experience their renovated
place of worship during an event filled with food, fellowship and prayer.
The evening will open with a catered dinner, followed by a prayer service
accompanied by the Gospel Choir at All Saints, including storytelling by
Ginny and Terry Temple and reflection. The conclusion of the evening will be
a brief Case Study presentation on the renovation project. An opportunity to
speak directly with artists involved in the project will follow the formal
presentation.
All Saints Catholic Church is a central Milwaukee parish. The parish was
formed in 1994 as a merger of nine north side Catholic churches. As a merger
of many parishes located in a largely African American area of Milwaukee,
the All Saints congregation embodies the diverse breadth of the body of
Christ. The All Saints Choir is renown in the Milwaukee area and the Midwest
for the excellence of their music.
The Parish Planning Committee worked for nearly 10 years, along with Groth
Design Group, and KS Consulting, to provide a renovation for the existing
worship that would capture the heart of the merged parish. Central to the
renovation was transforming the rigidity of a big, white 1950's "cube" into
a place filled with expression, movement and inspiration-a place where the
spirit of the people can freely flow.
The success of the final design was the collaboration of parish talents, the
creativity of liturgical and architectural designers and the energy of
inspired artists. The final design includes an 85 foot canopy designed by
Judy Dioszegi and 42 feet of bronze in free-flowing font walls fabricated by
sculptor Jordan Wanner. A freedom quilt commemorating the Freedom Road of
southern slaves through the underground railroad was designed by member
Margie Morgan and fabricated by parishioners; the quilt is a colorful
backdrop for the parish's Mary Queen of Africa shrine.
