Saint Vincent de Paul
The St. Vincent de Paul program hopes to serve families in
need within the central city area by assisting with food,
spiritual support and networks to other agencies. During
August-September, the program gives families school supplies and
shoe certificates for children. The program also serves as an
outreach to the elderly who might need special assistance. In
addition, during the holidays, the group prepares Thanksgiving
and Christmas baskets of food and gifts for a number of families
in need. The St. Vincent de Paul pantry operates out of All
Saints Catholic Church on Tuesdays from 9:30-11:30, and since
the Fond du Lac store closing, is at St. John’s Chapel on
Thursdays from 9:30-11:30. In addition to the pantry, the St.
John’s site has a clothing room with a limited supply of
furniture and beds. Families apply for assistance on-site and
then are supported with counseling. A team of Vincentians also
visits the families at their home to assess additional needs.
St. Vincent de Paul needs continuous financial and food
donations and is also in need of volunteers who would be willing
to assist in moving bigger items--furniture and beds—which have
been donated by several businesses. Part of the on-going work of
St. Vincent de Paul is to find support through grants and
networking with suburban parishes.
A quote from: A journal by Gary Smith, S.J.
“The poor teach me that serving them is not just Some sort of
Christian imperative. Rather, It is in serving them that I can
discover, Like the church, what is best in my own heart.”
